The 3rd World Forum Against Drugs will take place in Stockholm, Sweden, on May 21-23, 2012. Speakers include the patron, H.M. Queen Silvia of Sweden, and US drug czar R. Gil Kerlikowske. The three main themes of the Forum will be: Human rights and the Rights of child to be protected from illicit drugs, Illicit drug use and trafficking problems of Latin America, and Primary prevention and its role in drug policy.

Free seminars in UK on innovative project, 'Street Talk'

Mentor UK and Addaction are running a series of free seminars across the UK during May 2012 on their innovative joint project, Street Talk. The project trains the staff and volunteers of local partners to deliver a brief intervention that aims to reduce substance misuse among young people, and associated risks including criminal activity and anti-social behaviour.

The event aims to bring together experts from around the world to exchange information on the latest research, policy and practice on promoting effective family-based preventive interventions and positive parenting. Issues covered will include alcohol, tobacco and illicit drug use; violence and anti-social behaviour; parenting skills and styles; family-based preventive interventions, practices and policies; and family legislation.

SAMHSA has announced it's first Behavioral Health Data Users' Conference, August 8–10, 2012. This offers a series of plenary, discussion, and hands-on training sessions on how to use SAMHSA's survey data collections such as DAWN, NSDUH, N-SSATS, and TEDS, plus a joint session with the National Conference on Health Statistics.

Reminder: deadline for SPR travel awards to Washington DC is April 6th

As previously published, the 2012 SPR Annual Meeting has travel awards available for researchers 'early in their careers' and students/researchers of 'underrepresented racial/ethnic minority groups'. The deadline for application is Friday April 6th. The 2012 Annual Meeting is to be held from May 29 – June 1, 2012, at Hyatt Regency Washington, Washington, DC.
